The recent attack on Ohio State University by Abdul Razak Ali Artan was very clearly an act of jihadist terrorism likely inspired by the increasingly desperate Islamic State. It bore all the hall marks of an IS inspired act.
Unfortunately, America’s polarized political discourse is incapable of thinking clearly about these issues. All too often, the liberal establishment is incapable of admitting the obvious that a particular interpretation of Islam is in large part responsible for motivating individuals like this. Alternatively, Trumpist conservatives are bound to overreact and blame all Muslims for the acts of a sizable but distinct minority of the faith who practice violence.
