Apple Confirms Self-Driving Car Interest, ‘Investing Heavily’ In Automation

From Investor’s Business Daily:

Apple (AAPL) has publicly acknowledged its interest in autonomous vehicles, telling transportation regulators that its work could revolutionize the “future of transportation.”

Steve Kenner, Apple’s director of product integrity, in a Nov. 22 letter to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, said that Apple “is investing heavily in the study of machine learning and automation, and is excited about the potential of automated systems in many areas, including transportation.”

Kenner added, “Automated vehicles have the potential to greatly enhance the human experience — to prevent millions of car crashes and thousands of fatalities each year and to give mobility to those without.”

Apple didn’t actually confirm a specific project related to autonomous cars, but this is the strongest signal yet.”
